Ingredients
Main
- 2 kaiser hard rolls, oval-shaped
- 27 g unsalted butter, melted
- 40 g parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Nutrition (per serving)
Method
Preheat the oven broiler to the high setting.
Slice each kaiser roll in half horizontally using a serrated knife.
Apply the melted butter evenly across the cut surfaces of the rolls using a pastry brush.
Distribute the grated parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered sides of the rolls.
Place the roll halves on a baking sheet with the cut sides facing upward.
Set the baking sheet under the broiler approximately 8-10 cm (3-4 inches) from the heat source and cook for 2 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.
Chef's Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best flavor and meltability. Pre-grated cheese often contains anti-caking agents that can affect texture.
- Ensure your broiler is properly preheated. A hot broiler is key to achieving that quick, golden-brown crispness without drying out the roll.
- The distance from the broiler is crucial. Too close, and they'll burn; too far, and they won't brown effectively. Start with the recommended distance and adjust as needed based on your oven's broiler intensity.
- Serve these rolls immediately after broiling for the optimal texture – warm, crisp, and cheesy.
Storage
Refrigerator: 2 days — Store in an airtight container; bread will soften over time.
Freezer: 1 month — Wrap tightly in foil.
Reheating: Reheat in an oven at 175°C (350°F) for 5 minutes to restore texture.
